SAMVEDANA YATRA – LED BY YOGENDER YADAV FROM 1ST OF OCT 2015 STRATING

Jai Kisan Andolan  gears up for Samvedana Yatra led by Yogender Yadav. Share this post in your groups intensively. Show concern for the pains of our farmers and stand with him in times of test when the Govt and the PM busy with Digital India in US and none to hear and understand and comfort the suffering farmers in a nation which has seen deficit rains from worst to very bad rain in hundreds of districts of the nation.

Press Release, September 28, 2015
Yogendra Yadav and colleagues to undertake “Samvedna Yatra” through severe drought affected regions of the country from October 2.
A disaster is overtaking the country. But we don’t know about it. And the name of the national disaster is drought.
Facts speak for themselves. As per official figures (on 28th September), the monsoon this year is down by 14% compared to normal rainfall. As many as 295 districts covering 39% land area of the country have experienced severe or drastic shortfall in rains. Marathwada and Central as well as Eastern UP are now the heart of this crisis. 17 of the 29 worst affected districts are from Uttar Pradesh. This is the second successive drought year, the third time we have had back-to-back drought in the last century. And if we go by meteorological forecasts, the El Nino effect is likely to continue till April 2016 and could affect the next, Rabi, crop as well.
We are staring at a national disaster that is not yet acknowledged by the government nor adequately recognised by the media. And society has been largely unconcerned by it, partly because of its lack of awareness: city-dwellers don’t know about it and the villagers see this as a local crisis in their own area. This is a moment for the entire country to respond. It is not just the government, society needs to step in. Movements, NGOs, business houses, urban middle classes, students and youth — every Indian needs to respond to this national crisis.
For this we first need the country to know about the extent and dimension of this crisis. The conscience of the country needs to be touched, awakened. This is also the moment to spur and spark creative solutions to deal with this recurring phenomenon.
This is what we propose to do with a Samvedna Yatra through the worst areas affected by this drought. A team of 10-15 activists, writers, creative artists etc will travel to some villages in each of the 25 districts spread over 7 states that the yatra proposes to cover. There will be no public meetings, no mobilisation, no speeches. The yatris shall quietly travel from village to village and stay with the farmers in the villages. We propose to listen to the affected persons, families and communities and share their feelings with the rest of the country. We also propose to understand and highlight the alternative models of dealing with the drought.
The Samvedna yatra begins in North Karnataka on 2nd October and will travel through Telangana, Maharashtra, MP, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan and conclude in South Haryana on the 15th. The yatra route map is attached. At the end of this two-week yatra, we propose to hold a public hearing to which we shall invite some of the leading voices of the country from various walks of life. The yatra does not seek any attention to itself: we hope that it would draw the nation’s attention to the drought. Nature has done its bit; we hope this yatra will spur India into doing its bit.
Besides Yogendra Yadav and other colleagues from Jai Kisan Andolan, some of those who have confirmed their participation in the Samvedna Yatra are:
