With great hopes we have joined/supported an ambitious, path breaking movement by Sri Anna Hazare under the banner of “India against corruption”. The party in power and most corrupt political parties of the country at that time were not willing to bring changes in governance that IAC demanded. Understanding the need for a new political dispensation that can run on the ideals of Swaraj and corruption-free governance, Sri Shanthi Bhushan, Sri Prashanth Bhushan, Prof. Sri Anand Kumar, Sri Arvind Kejriwal, Sri Yogendra Yadav and Sri Ajit Jha started the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) along with few other committed individuals .Thousands of us from within and outside India, lent our unflinching and unconditional support to AAP hoping and dreaming of a party which would usher in an era of participatory, transparent and accountable governance.
Responding to the clarion call, Delhi voters cutting across all superficial barriers of region, caste, religion etc and gave a massive majority to Aam Aadmi Party. AAP returned to power by winning 67/70 seats. However, most unfortunately, Sri Arvind Kejriwal and a close coterie of his, in their pursuit for power, compromised on the promise of ushering in alternative politics and emerged as any other opportunistic, self seeking politicians of the day. Sri Prashant Bhushan, Sri Yogendra Yadav and Prof Anand Kumar who raised their voices against the dilution of AAP vision and values faced the most unexpected and high-handed action of dismissal from Political affairs committee (PAC), Executive Committee (EC), National Council (NC) and the party, against all norms of decency and democracy. Also, Admiral Ramdas, the retired Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, who headed the Internal Lokpal, was shown the door in a very demeaning manner. He was given no formal communication regarding his expulsion and he only got to know of it through media. Many volunteers who left the comfort zones of their homes, professions and careers despite opposition from families, and supporters who had extended unconditional support felt cheated and were left shattered because of such actions. Many volunteers/supporters out of sheer disgust and disillusionment resigned from AAP or withdrew from active politics.
