Subject: Swaraj Samvad in Bangalore, 29 April: An invitation from Yogendra Yadav
To: Yogendra Yadav <yogendra.yadav@gmail.com>

Dear friend,

In the last three years I have come several times to Bangalore and have had the honour of visiting many of you in different parts of Karnataka. Today I write to you with a special request. I write to invite you for ‘Swaraj Samvad’, a dialogue on the present and the future of alternative politics to be held in Bangalore on this Wednesday, the 29th of April.

The quest for alternative politics is at a crossroads today. It is time to pause and think, reflect and plan our way forward. Nearly four years ago many of us had begun a journey to change the trajectory of politics. This journey has made forward strides. We know for a fact that the spirit of selfless idealism is alive and thriving in our country, that the political establishment is more fragile than it looks, and that given an effective option the people are willing to embrace an alternative.

At the same time, we also face numerous challenges in this journey. I need not recall all the recent developments that we all know. We need to ask ourselves;
– Can we offer swaraj without practice minimum modicum of internal democracy within the organisation?
– Has our horizon shrunk from national politics to that of a regional formation or a city state?
– Has a political movement been reduced to an election machine?
– Are we at risk of falling prey to the ills of established politics of personality cults and success-at-any-cost?

Perhaps you know that thousands of volunteers from all over the country came together for a Swaraj Samwad in Gurgaon on 14th of April. They decided, through open discussion and transparent voting, that they wanted to carry the struggle forward so as to remain true to the spirit of the andolan. They passed a resolution to form Swaraj Abhiyan.

I approach you as a volunteer of Swaraj Abhiyan to invite you to an open dialogue on these and other questions. I wish to assure you that this is not a gathering for or against someone. This is not an act of rebellion, unless asking questions and seeking truthful answers is construed to be so. This is not an act of indiscipline, if anything we seek the highest inner discipline that truth imbibes. This is just a dialogue among volunteers, supporters and well-wishers of alternative politics.

This dialogue takes place in Bangalore at the Jain Bhavan, Wood Street, Opp Brigade Towers, Brigade Road, (before Sulya circle), between 10am and 5pm on Wednesday, the 29th April.

Please come and express yourself. Your voice and opinion matter.

Looking forward to interacting with you,
Yours
Yogendra Yadav
