“Relevance of Chankya in our Times” Qoutes of Chanakya – Impressions by Adil Mohd.

5dee325ebd40954e0b1e0026bf37df67_1362044685How do you rate them, any quote you find not in place in present times. How Indian and how universal they are. ?

Chanakya on Self Improvement..
Before you start some work, always ask yourself three questions : 1. Why am I doing it. 2. What the results might be and 3. Will I be successful. Only when you think deeply and find satisfactory answers to these questions, go ahead.

AM : Three words Why, Result and Satisfactory. I feel these words are relative. One needs to understand how are we defining these words. Intention and purpose lead to success. Definition changes from where you stand. It is about where you stand. Success for me may be defeat for other. I mean emphasis on intention and over all good should be satisfaction. I fear the stress should not be, in times it stands valid, in respect of nation, kingdom, wealth and political positioning it differs too.

Chanakya on Family..
He who is overly attached to his family members experiences fear and sorrow, for the root of all grief is attachment. Thus one should discard attachment to be happy.

AM : Love and affection lead to immense attachment. A family with such bond often sets example of complete happiness. I beg to disagree the root of grief in not in attachment with family. This quote confuses me, be it a nation or a wife or children or family attachment leads to happiness. One has to understand, loving and being affectionate is healthy. One has to have the power with in to compose and be balanced in times of test and pain on losing. I also like to think in direction of sense deriving  in his quote, attachment weakens a self in adventure of worldly gains and sacrifices in faith or kingship. Then again to be happy one has to have faith in destiny and faith in creator. This quote pulls my mind in to sense Chanakya was not a strong of faith and destiny.

Chanakya on Kingdom..
If the king is pious, the subjects become so; but if the king is vicious, the subjects become the same. If he be indifferent to both (virtue and vice), then they too bear the same character. In short, as is the king so are his subjects.’

AM : Hard to accept and believe. In today’s perspective this does not really pass the test of time. Very rarely in small nations where there is dictatorship or king ship. This is not an ideal situation for our times. Nations are governed by principles of democracy or faiths and ideologies  today. The concept of power in one mans hands is a thing of past. Modern civilization and most of the faith driven nations too are driven by majority rule and King is a non Entity like the Queen of England, and in cases of Entity like in Shiek doms this may look relevant but then such nations too have a book or an ideology or a family to answer. People in today’s time are ultimate they turn the tables up side down. They do not represent the character of an evil leader or a party too. This is good to best civilizations like Egypt, Iran, Iraq. Russia, and now even to a capitalist far right nations like Israel and India and Japan, ballot and people’s movement impact to do all the correction. Chanakya quote gets irrelevant here.

Chanakya on Failures…
Once you start a working on something, don’t be afraid of failure and don’t abandon it. People who work sincerely are the happiest.”

AM : absolutely inspiring and true in all times. A quote that inspire and is universally true to all human beings. I wish this is understood by all our youth. And understood well and practiced. Fear of failure is defeat. Abandoning is not quality of a steaming winner. Sincerity is heart that ensures victory leading to happiness.

Chanakya on Education…
Education is the best friend. An educated person is respected everywhere. Education beats the beauty and the youth

Education seeking is best quality to adopt. Education is not just books in school and colleges with purpose to earn lively hood and comforts of live. But learning beyond reading people, surroundings, probing changes. And travel in to history thirst of understanding with purpose of gaining knowledge to relieve ignorance and gain confidence and be spreading it. Sure an educated defeats beauty and youth. Knowledge with vibrant communication and friendly personality beats a wagon of beauty and planes of youth.

Chanakya on Good Person…
The fragrance of flowers spreads only in the direction of the wind. But the goodness of a person spreads in all directions.

AM : How nice, it is better to be in company  surrounded by fragrance of flowers. The life of a flower is short but company of a Good loveable, courteous, and positive helping person leaves impact even when he is gone. And keeps the heart desiring and erring at all times.

Chanakya on Parenting…
For five years one’s son should be pampered, the next ten years he should be beaten (meaning he must be disciplined) and once he turns sixteen he should be treated as a friend.

AM : Chankya given great place to Son, and Gender has an impact on his mind. He thinks in Male specific gender. Could be as he is considered are a strategist and a thinker and guru in Raj Niti, Raj Dharm, and Praja Raj, and Raj Khutum.
This quote is famous in all cultures. And is very reflective in our times too. In cultures in east but in west the second span of 5 to 10 deviates does not come under this Niti. The flaw is in west. West has a lesson to learn with this quote.

Chanakya on Dharma…
For one in an alien land learning is friend, for one staying at home mother is friend , for one suffering from illness medicine is friend and for the departed souls dharma is friend.

AM : Yet again, Religion does not seem to be of great value for Chanakya in this life. He has great trust on own merits and principles of self. God and faith and reaching for help and advice and guidance from faith and book of wisdom does not seems to impress Chanakya. In all times it for a faithful his faith is a friend and his values is friend.

Chanakya on Kids…
What is the purpose of having a son who is neither learned nor devoted to God? It is useless to have a blind eye which will only result in eye-ache.

AM : To have son tailor-made to the wish list of Chanakya is not ideal situation. Son can not be always a heir of a throne or a warrior to defeat the enemy. Son can not be human always a Sidhartha who later became Buddha. A son can be a simple loving caring person who is free from obsessions and can be, incompetent and disadvantaged too. But does it mean he will not be a son. He will be then it is for the faith and trust in God to accept him as son and take care of him and never find fault with him and never consider him a burden or an eye ache. Pain in eye. This quote is harsh and deviates from the Dhrama of a father to take care and love his child.

Chanakya on Generations…
Even as a single good tree with fragrant flowers can spread the fragrance in the entire forest, so also the entire family (or clan) shines by a son possessing good qualities.

AM : Then again a son, son is rules mind of Chanakya. This shows how the Women in Hindu mythology and kingdoms had insignificant place they seem to be just subjects who did not have a place in the scheming of the nation, power structure and gender respect. The woman was just a piece of show and pride on throne having not considered as and partner in process of thought and considered as wisdom partner. If a son fails women is not even considered as a strength to over come the deficit. Solution is not provided in case of failures and role of women.

Chanakya on Scholars…
Scholarship and kingship can never be equated. A king is respected in his own kingdom whereas a scholar is respected everywhere.

AM : This is again un true to our times. King is non entity in today political and national power frame. A scholar and a wise person with a people’s choice is made a leader to collectively build and administer a nation and write the fate of the people. any failure in honoring is faced with rejection and criticism.

Chanakya on Fool men…
A wise man has all qualities in him, a fool has only faults. Therefore a single wise person is better than a thousand fools.

AM : Wise man has all qualities in him, a fool has only faults. This means no one is wise if he does not have all qualities. and no one can be termed fool if he is only bundle of faults. This is hard to accept. This is not an ideal to people in general. A wise can be a fool at times and a fool can be wise at times too. it si matter of preservative and place and time he or she is put to test.

Chanakya on Lust..
There is no disease so destructive as lust. There is no disease so destructive as lust. Chanakya described lust as the biggest barrier in a man’s growth. Lusty individual would never be able to concentrate of other requisites of life. However, Chanakya was not against sex.

AM : Again the focus in male, gender lust is not gender specific it is gender neutral. Lust degrades personality and defeats intellect and skills making him weak and disposed. It will definitely bring him down and be a barrier in his growth. But legitimate un sinfully relations do not destroy or damage.

Chanakya on Death..
The life, action, wealth, learning and death of a person are determined by God when he is in the womb.

AM : Absolutely true. This single quote proves biggest logic and purpose of life. The life is a purpose driven time line. God is all-knowing and all-powerful. He is the creator of life, he give life, he schedules the actions in his time line, he provides as he is destined, he gives knowledge and he alone is controller of life and death. His time on earth is fixed he lives and does as per his destiny. I fully agree. If one can understand this simple truth of our being on earth the whole riddle is solved.

God bless us all and may we understand better and understand our faith is with purpose and our God is one and he knows all that is un known to us and he has a purpose in our live he wants us to live a life for the time destined. And return to our creator. As we had intercepted in our mothers womb we had only a stage to follow and slides to perform. each of us has a role to play and pass giving the next actor to follow.

Chanakya on Friendship..
He who has wealth has friends. It is true only to the evil once.

AM : The good understand the value of good and they find more comfort and happiness in the company of the poor. If the purpose is to take you will choice a rich friend if the purpose is to  give and share you will be happy with a poor friend,  or any one for that matter.
